Eastern Jackson County, MO — U.S. Rep. Sam Graves easily won the Republican primary in the 6th District and will now prepare to face Democrat Clint Hylton in November.
Graves, R-Tarkio, won with 54,290 votes (82.4 percent) Tuesday. His opponent, Liberty resident Christopher Ryan, received 11,606 votes (17.6 percent).
Graves has served as the 6th District since 2000. A businessman and a full-time farmer, Graves is a ranking member of the Small Business Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture and Transportation committees.
“I believe we have a lot of work yet to do, so I’m not about to walk away now,” he said of running for re-election. “There are still a lot of things I want to accomplish working for the people of northwest Missouri.”
Hylton, a resident of Excelsior Springs, is an agent with Shelter Insurance. Serving on several committees, he has also been president of the Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce.
