Area lawmakers have filed legislation to protect children from dangerous toys sold in the state.
U.S. Congressman Sam Graves wants to increase penalties on companies that knowingly violate the law. His proposed Safe Toy Act would raise the penalty from $1.8 million to $10 million.
The bill would also make it mandatory for producers to verify their products meet Consumer Product Safety Commission standards. And, the CPSC must make available the list of companies who have been certified for consumers.
