Military veterans now get priority over ex-convicts when it comes to filling public housing slots because of a legislative move today by Rep. Sam Graves of Missouri.

   The Sixth District Republican’s bill changed the HOPE VI public housing program, which revitalizes rundown dwellings, to provide more low-income housing. Ex-convicts had received priority on available space ahead of veterans in the original bill, passed in 1993.
